For Star Wars collectors with a penchant for unique and authentic offerings, Bandai Japan has a slew of figures, model kits, and play sets due for release, as well as a tantalizing assortment of concept pieces that are certain to foment interest. Shown earlier this summer at the 2014 International Tokyo Toy Show (Jun 12th-15th), the diversity of Bandai Star Wars collectibles ran the gamut from classic to unorthodox, and ranged in scale from diminutive to gargantuan.
Classic pieces inspired by the original Star Wars trilogy like the 1/12 scale Darth Vader, Stormtrooper, and droid figures were shown alongside a captivating assortment of starship model kits and dioramas. Particularly craveable were the (1/72 scale) X-Wing and TIE Fighter models, Death Star War Display diorama set (recreating the climactic Death Star assault from Star Wars: Episode IV), and the room-filling (1/1700 scale), light-up Imperial Star Destroyer, which was recreated, in painstaking detail.
Less conventional Bandai Star Wars collectibles on display included the transforming Egg Stars action figures; Tamashii Nations Movie Realization Samurai Taisho Darth Vader; Death Star Space Warp interior hobby rollercoaster, and the sound-enabled, 1:1 scale, three-dimensional, R2-D2 wall panel concept model.
