For fans of that iconic galaxy “far, far, away”, the spread of Takara Tomy Star Wars collectibles on display at last month’s International Tokyo Toy Show 2016 (June 9th through June 12th) was a wonderfully enthralling showcase.
Nestled among areas dedicated to licensed properties like Beyblade, Thunderbirds, Transformers, and Marvel superheroes, a section of Takara Tomy’s booth in the west hall of the Big Sight Exhibition Center was once again occupied by an eye-grabbing variety of Star Wars toys. Similar to Takara Tomy’s exhibition at last year’s show, the cinematic and television universes were duly represented with a range of collectibles inspired by Episode I through Episode VII as well as the small-screen’s, Star Wars Rebels. As the trailer for the looming big-screen juggernaut, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, looped repeatedly in the background, booth attendees had the opportunity to get an up close look at the set-up of multiple display cases packed with new and featured toys. In addition to poseable action figures (in a range of sizes and scales), toy lightsabers, and masks, there was an enticing collection of miniature vehicles as well. Alongside tiny versions of iconic craft like the Millennium Falcon, X-Wing, Y-Wing, TIE fighter, and others, Takara Tomy showed off its Star Cars collection. This one-of-a kind set of conceptualized vehicle-character mash-ups features designs that give them the look of popular characters like Darth Vader, Chewbacca, Kylo Ren, and others.
Joining the likes of Hot Toys, Bandai, Platz Co. Ltd. and others, the Takara Tomy Star Wars showcase was just one of the many highlights of Tokyo Toy Show 2016.
