For statue collectors with a seemingly unstoppable green (tenth scale) rage monster on their hands, there’s clearly only one solution: Kotobukiya’s Avengers: Age of Ultron Hulkbuster ARTFX+ Statue. The crimson and gold behemoth is mostly movie-accurate, suitably brawny, and, as a result, is the must-have counterpart to the company’s matching Hulk figure when “calling in Veronica” is the only option.
Like Kotobukiya’s depiction of the Hulk, the tenth scale Avengers: Age of Ultron Hulkbuster ARTFX+ statue boasts a design by legendary sculptor, Junnosuke Abe, the famed creative mastermind behind the company’s very popular Marvel Now line-up of figures (including the equally choice Iron Man ARTFX+ statue). The nearly 11.5-inch tall statue is a spot-on recreation of Tony Stark’s mammoth Mark XLIV armor as it appears in Marvel’s super-charged Avengers sequel. It boasts a detailed, bulky build with sculpted contours that bristle with meticulously fashioned mechanical components and surface features. Boasting a rich metallic red and gold paint scheme complete with faux-abrasions and battle damage, the Hulkbuster ARTFX+ statue’s look is impressive overall. However, the lack of an internal light-up system to give illumination to the eyes, chest piece, and repulsors detracts a bit from the the piece’s otherwise screen-faithful aesthetic. Once it’s out of the box, the five-part statue (left arm, right arm, head/torso, legs, and base) fit together easily and quickly. While the Hulkbuster’s dynamic pose is mostly fixed, the right arm is built with limited articulation to allow the right hand to align with and grasp the left hand of the Hulk ARTFX+ statue. Completing the look, the bases of the two figures (which resemble a brick roadway) fit together resulting in a fairly remarkable and thoroughly craveable diorama that captures the excitement and fury of the action-packed onscreen showdown from Avengers 2.
