The Last Guardian Collector’s Edition is the fittingly grand culmination of a video game odyssey that began nearly ten years ago. Finally releasing in the early days of December, exclusively for Sony’s PlayStation 4 (after having been originally slated to launch on its predecessor, the PlayStation 3), the high-end version of famed designer, Fumito Ueda’s masterwork, comes stuffed with a craveable assortment of physical and digital bonuses which are apt to entice prospective buyers.
The Last Guardian Collector’s Edition comes packaged in a cardboard carton that’s been designed to resemble a wooden crate. PlayStation enthusiasts will find the Blu-Ray game disc inside a limited edition metal case along with a card with a printed code that enables the download of the 10-song “Collector’s Edition” soundtrack. In addition, buyers will find a full-color, 72-page art book (“The Art of the Last Guardian”) featuring sketches, and concept images chronicling the game’s development, as well as a sheet of 16 decals inspired by The Last Guardian’s characters and imagery.
The clear showpiece of The Last Guardian Collector’s Edition is the premium statue. The two-part statue measures nearly 4.5 inches tall overall (with a circumference of approximately 10 inches). Each of the statue’s sculpted plastic figures depicts the game’s central characters; the enigmatic and courageous little boy (rising to a particularly diminutive 1.5-inch tall); standing atop a (3.5-inch tall) rendition of his hybrid winged-mammal companion, Trico, coiled in a slumber on a (1-inch high) circular base. The tiny figure has prongs on the feet that fit into recesses on the creature’s head to complete the display. The piece boasts the uniquely stylized appearance (seen on screen) as brought to life with a paint scheme that employs the muted hues that are reminiscent of the game’s distinctly captivating visual design.
The long-awaited and PlayStation 4 exclusive, The Last Guardian Collector’s Edition, released on December 6th alongside the standard physical and digital editions of the game at the manufacturer’s suggested retail price of $119.99 USD.
